Value Bets Explained
Learn how to identify value betting opportunities β where our signal probability differs from the price β using our signal-based analysis.
What is a Value Bet?
A value bet occurs when the probability of an outcome is higher than what the odds suggest. In other words, the bookmaker has undervalued the true probability of an event occurring.
Formula:
Edge = Signal Probability β Implied Odds Probability
If the edge is positive, you have found a value bet. The larger the edge, the stronger the opportunity.
Example
Our signal system assigns a 62% probability to Player A winning. The bookmaker's odds of 2.00 imply only 50%. That's a 12% edge β flagged as a Value Bet.
How Lossbeater Identifies Value Bets
Supported Markets
Match Winner
Value bets on the match winner market. Our system compares signal consensus probability against the implied probability from home/away odds.
Over/Under
Value bets on total points lines. Probability is calculated from a mixture model using H2H total points distributions and compared against the bookmaker line.
League Exclusions
High-Uncertainty Leagues Are Excluded
Leagues with structurally unpredictable formats are excluded from value bet detection. Currently this includes TT Cup (league 29097), which uses a K4 round-robin format where first-round opponents are often unfamiliar with each other, producing near coin-flip signal consensus.
Excluding these leagues keeps value bet signals focused on matches where our signal probability and the price can meaningfully diverge.
How to Use Value Bets
Stake Suggestions
Each match shows automatic stake suggestions (0.25Uβ1.0U) based on edge and signal consensus strength, calculated using Kelly Criterion math.
Focus on High Edge
Prioritize matches with larger gaps between our probability and the price. Combine value bet signals with Confirm reads for higher-conviction picks β and always check the public record.
Track Your Results
Use Bet Management to log your value bet plays and track ROI over time. Value betting is a long-term strategy β results over hundreds of bets matter more than any single outcome.
Important Considerations
Value Bets Are Not Guarantees
- β’ Value bets increase your long-term edge, but individual bets can still lose
- β’ Always use proper bankroll management β stake suggestions are a guide, not a rule
- β’ Consider other factors beyond just edge (player form, match context, etc.)
- β’ Value betting is a long-term strategy β judge performance over hundreds of bets
The Math Behind Value
Betting odds encode a probability. Decimal odds of 2.10 imply 1 / 2.10 = 47.6% β that is the market's price for that outcome. Add both sides of a match and you get more than 100%: the excess is the bookmaker's margin (the vig), and it is why breaking even requires being better than the price, not just right half the time.
A value bet is a price whose implied probability sits below what the signals estimate. If the model says 53% and the price implies 47.6%, the gap is the edge. A positive edge only pays off across a large sample β any single value bet can and often does lose.
Why Table Tennis Is Different
Professional table tennis is one of the fastest betting markets in sports: matches finish in under thirty minutes, hundreds are played daily, form swings hard between morning and evening sessions, and head-to-head samples are often tiny. That pace creates temporary mispricings β and closes them quickly. Edges here are small, short-lived and league-dependent.
An Honest Warning
Most apparent edges evaporate once you account for the vig and normal variance. A value tag is a structured observation, not a promise of profit. We publish our full record β including stretches where value picks lose for days β because that is what betting on thin edges actually looks like. If someone shows you only their wins, they are hiding something.
Discipline Over Volume
Flat stakes, a written record, and no chasing. The value approach fails fastest when stakes grow after losses. Decide your unit before the day starts, log every bet, and judge results over months, not evenings.
